Impact & Outreach
Impact
The impact of QSI RENU is realized through diverse collaborations that enable innovative regenerative engineering technologies that elevate our societal well-being. By uniting a diversified group of scientists, engineers, and clinicians, the institute motivates convergence research. These collaborations are strengthened through training programs that educate the next generation of trainees on facilitating and executing high-level partnerships between professionals with diverse backgrounds. To date, the results of these collaborations have yielded fruitful and high-impact technologies that have reached market and continue to revolutionize the current standard of care. We aim to continue pursuing transformative technologies through implementing first-in-human studies based on QSI RENU's core collaborative spirit.
Outreach
With the establishment of QSI RENU, we aim to build partnerships between Northwestern and the broader communities. The scientific innovations stemming from the institute have the potential to dramatically improve quality of life for numerous individuals. We are working to establish connections with industry partners and patient advocacy groups that will ensure the realization of impactful societal benefits. QSI RENU continues to gauge the interests and needs of patients along with the feedback of their care providers to ensure that the research being performed within the institute provides tangible impacts to the public.
CARE Programs
QSI RENU supports the following outreach programs organized by its affiliate research center, the Center for Advanced Regenerative Engineering (CARE).
- Regenerative Engineering Training Program (RE-Training): This convergence research predoctoral training program offers an integrated curriculum as well as industrial and clinical experiences at the intersection of materials science, stem cell and developmental biology, physical sciences, and translational medicine.
-
Competition for Undergraduate Regenerative Engineering (CURE) Club: This student-run organization's mission is to harness the innovation and technical skills of interdisciplinary student teams to tackle medical problems or challenges using regenerative engineering solutions.
- Research Experience and Mentoring (REM) Summer Research Program: The eight-week REM program provides students with an exciting opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research at the intersection of biology, engineering, materials science, and medicine. Participants gain hands-on experience with essential laboratory and engineering techniques and work closely with faculty mentors and research teams in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.
